About

About

Creativity comes in so many different forms. I love cooking, sewing, knitting,

drawing, photography, writing and most of all - I love hand embroidery.

My first taste of embroidery, came when I was about 11 years old. It began with

getting milk and bread for an elderly neighbour who, in return, taught me some

basic stitches and a little patchworking. That is when I fell in love with the needle

and thread.

After leaving school I started my working life as a junior finisher with a French

couturier in Collins Street, Melbourne. I didn’t stay long in this job and moved

onto Dental Nursing. I continued with my love of sewing,  as I was

earning a low salary, I started making my own clothes and altering other clothes,

my creative life was fun.  I just loved working with fabric and stitches.

My love for embroidery has given me so much pleasure. Recovery from illness, life’s ups and downs, addictions all of these have been made a little easier by having a creative outlet to turn too.  I have a saying that embroidery helps me get ‘my head where my hands are’...This can be very nurturing and healing.

On my journey so far,  I have created a range of hand embroidered one of kind unique pieces ,designed by me; also personalised baby blankets, treasured pets portraits (thread paintings) , family patchwork/embroidered heirloom quilts and so much more.

Helping other women learn basic embroidery stitches is something that gives me joy. It’s about one woman sharing with another, her gifts, talents and skills.

In addition to creating embroidery work I have taught embroidery classes.  Some young people and mainly adults at an embroidery store, retreats and U3A.  Over the last 10 years I have hosted a craft circle for women every two weeks.

I draw inspiration from the earth particularly Central Australia which I have visited many times.  One of the delights is sitting near Uluru or Kata Tjuta embroidering...taking in the energy of the rocks , the land and the palette of colours.  My happy place.  I just love it and love life.
